If the United States has Coachella, the Philippines has its own version of music festival—the Wanderland Festival.
Wanderland Music Festival is an annual tradition of showcasing live music and art. Wanderland prides itself on bringing in anticipated international indie bands with homegrown indie acts on the same stage to cater to a wide music taste.
Since its first staging in 2013, Wanderland Music and Arts Festival has steadily grown into what is now a two-day celebration of music and arts showcasing live performances from local and international indie legends and up and comers, making it the premier music festival in the Philippines.

In 2013, George Miller a.k.a. Joji, wasn’t known for his music. He was known as a popular comic YouTube personality called Filthy Frank.
The half Australian, half Japanese singer and producer’s music blends melancholic themes and soulful vocals over trap, folk, electronic, and R&B.
In October 2018, Joji’s first full-length album BALLADS 1 was released and currently has over 1.2 billion streams. It debuted at number one on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart, making him the first artist from Asia to do so.
Foals is an English rock band from Oxford, formed in the late 2000s. The band’s line-up consists of lead vocalist and lead guitarist Yannis Philippakis, drummer and percussionist Jack Bevan, rhythm guitarist Jimmy Smith and keyboardist Edwin Congreave.
Some of their hits are “What Went Down,” “Late Night,” and “My Number.”
3. Sabrina Claudio
Sabrina Claudio is a 23-year-old R&B-rooted singer and songwriter who favors ballads that are low-key and aching in nature.
At 17, her parents believed in her talent that they moved the family from Miami to Los Angeles to allow her to pursue her passion.
She began releasing video covers on YouTube and Twitter first before recording her own singles. It was only in 2016 when she released her greatest hits “Runnin’ Thru Lovers,” “Orion’s Belt,” and “Confidently Lost” on SoundCloud.
Now, she has already released her sophomore album, Truth Is— her fourth release in two years. The album is riddled with intimate ballads about emotional dishonesty, sensual envy, and undying loyalty inspired by the experiences of others.
4. Ben & Ben
Ben&Ben is a folk/rock band, with the following as members: Poch Barretto on electric guitar; Jam Villanueva on drums; Agnes Reoma on bass; Patricia Lasaten on keyboards, Toni Muñoz and Andrew de Pano on percussion; Keifer Cabugao on violin; and the twins Paolo and Miguel Guico on guitar and vocals.
This 9-member band is taking over the Philippine music industry by storm because of their songs that touch the hearts of their listeners.
They are the ones behind the songs “Maybe the Night,” “Kathang Isip,” “Pagtingin,” and “Masyado Pang Maaga.”
5. Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, popularly known as Ari Lennox, is an American singer and songwriter from Washington, D.C. She is the first woman to be signed to J. Cole’s record label, Dreamville Records. In 2016, she made her commercial Dreamville debut with the Pho EP and followed up in 2019 with her first album, Shea Butter Baby, which hit the Billboard 200 chart at number 104.
Some of her great hits are “Shea Butter Baby,” “Whipped Cream,” and “Up Late.”
6. IV of Spades
This band definitely makes heads turn because they all look like they exited a time machine from the 1970s and found themselves in the middle of the 2010s. Their old-school style stands out as much as their funky, falsetto-filled songs do.
The 3-member band is composed of Blaster Silonga, Badjao De Castro, and Zild Benitez. Its former vocalist, Unique Salonga, left the group in 2018.
Some of their famous singles are “Mundo” and “Hey Barbara.”
Raveena Aurora, also known as Raveena, is an Indian-American singer and songwriter. Her debut EP, Shanti, was released independently in 2017. Her first album, Lucid, was released independently in 2019 and distributed through Empire Distribution.
The 25-year-old singer creates music that is comforting but nuanced, balancing cultures by mashing up contemporary R&B with traditions from the South Asian diaspora. With her music, Raveena aims for a “complete expression of the self.”
8. Bruno Major
Bruno Major is a British R&B singer-songwriter. His music is mostly blissful, soulful, romantic and the perfect cure for any matters of the heart.
Some of his greatest hits are “Wouldn’t Mean a Thing,” “Like Someone In Love,” “Easily,” and “Places We Won’t Walk.”
9. Omar Apollo
Omar Apollo is known for his laid-back retro-soul and R&B sound and first emerged in 2016, posting songs like “Brakelights” online.
He grew up in Hobart, Indiana, where he spent his youth skateboarding and received his first guitar at age 12 as a gift from his parents and taught how to use it by his uncle. It was in high school when Apollo recorded his own songs and worked at home on his laptop. He dropped out of college in 2015 and dedicated his time to music drawing upon an eclectic mix of influences including David Bowie, D’Angelo, Cuco Sánchez, and others.
In 2018 he released his debut EP, Stereo, which featured songs in English and Spanish. Included on the album were the singles “Ugotme” and “Erase.”
10. Novo Amor
Ali John Meredith-Lacey, popularly known as Novo Amor, is a Welsh multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, sound designer, and producer. His music is a blend of indie pop and folk.
He released his first work in 2012 but became prominent after the release of his debut EP Woodgate, NY in March 2014. Since then, he has released multiple singles as Novo Amor, as well as collaborative work with Ed Tullett.
Unlike other band histories, Flu was formed when three of the members came together to fulfill the requirements of their music production class.
Members Deus Vergel de Dios (vocals), Dieter Bautista (bass), John Rae Rebano (guitars), Luigi Aganinta (guitars), and Randall Enriquez (drums) play an intoxicating mix of soul, funk and R&B and disco—think feel-good music.
In the music industry, it isn’t often that you come across a duo that makes “no-genre” music, but in the Philippines, siblings Ysa and Ygo Ferraz, also known as Ysanygo, are doing just that.
The siblings think that it might be difficult for the audience to distinguish if it’s an Ysanygo song because of the different genres. But they make it a point to have this certain lick or hook that binds everything together to make the song Ysanygo like hand claps or finger snaps.
