Make 2017 a special year for that special someone in your life and experience something breathtaking together. Southeast Asia has some of the most romantic (and fun!) places to visit in the world. Take that restaurant dinner in the city and have it on a white sand beach, or overlooking a temple, or as a picnic underneath a starry night sky. No matter what you enjoy doing, there’s something for everyone and, as the saying goes, the couple that travels together, stays together.

Head to Bali to hike the volcanic Mount Batur and watch the sunrise. You can also head to the rapids for a bit of white water rafting or relax on lovina beach with dolphin watching, a meal and some drinks. For another great location, head to Desa Belok and walk through the sea of golden marigolds.

Lombok and the Gili
Lombok and the Gili islands offer a great volcanic mountain to climb: mount Rinjani. Make sure to catch the most beautiful view of the island from Bukit Pergasingan and visit an infinity pool at the base of the mountain in The Rinjani Lodge. Also make sure to catch Gili’s famous sunsets, seafood restaurants and boat trips.

If you want to travel somewhere relaxing, head to Yogyakarta, where you’ll find yourselves immersed in history and culture. The Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono’s Palace is a great place to visit, followed by the Taman Sari and the unmissable Borobudur temple. Also, take a walk through the kotagede, the former capital of the ancient Islamic Mataram kingdom. Again, for those more interested in the outdoors, the volcanic Mount Merapi is just outside the city.

Head to Cebu if you’re looking for the rush of a city (with some surprisingly beautiful beaches too). Visit the beaches of Mactan and Moalboal to find sun, sand and sea. You can make an appearance at the ICON club in Mabolo and try taking a walk through the Genesis Valley national park.

Boracay offers thirteen different beaches for you to hang out at, one of the best ones being the Puka Shell Beach. But don’t spend all your time here, head to the Cocomangas Shooters Bar in town and you’re sure to have a good night. For an exhilarating day with your friends, catch the Fly Fish Ride at one of the many beaches.

Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai is a great place to eat food from all across Asia. Also, see the area’s great history in one of the many temples or catch the sunset and sunrise from the iron bridge.

Phuket is a great place for the inner adventurer. The Phuket old Town is a sin-Portuguese mix, with some splendid scenery. Also, visit the giant Buddha atop the Nakkerd Hills. Finally, make sure to visit the Wat Chalong and Phuket Temples.

Hong Kong
Hong Kong should be your choice if you and your friends are looking for city and shopping. Visit the renowned tech paradise Golden Shopping Centre and more diverse Dragon Centre. Also, make sure to check out the city skyline from the star ferry. Make sure you don’t miss out on the peak tram and then take a visit to Lantau island to trek back into the island’s mountains.

Penang is one of the big hubs between the east and west of China. George Town is a great place for restaurants and drinks. There is also the Penang National Park’s jungle trails and the city is dotted with temples highlighting diverse beliefs in the area.

Langkawi’s big draw is the Pantai Cenang beach. You can also head to the beautiful Legend Garden. Finally, if you want to buy some local products, the Kompleks Budaya Kraf is a big local market for you and your traveling companions to browse.

Colombo’s Mount Lavinia is around 20-minutes out of the city center. It’s a great place to retreat from city life and enjoy local nightlife. Moreover, the beach is lined with enough restaurants and bars for even the most experienced traveler. Inside the city, The National Art Gallery is an option for anyone looking to have a more relaxing day out.
